Arthur was a digital archaeologist of sorts. He spent his nights trawling through abandoned servers and forgotten FTP directories, looking for "dead" data. To most, these were just broken links and corrupted sectors; to Arthur, they were the ruins of a civilization that had moved on too quickly. The town is empty, but the doors are all unlocked

Arthur looked at the last line of the text file again. Someone Stood Near, it Stayed Still. He went back to the folder

Arthur leaned back. He looked at his mechanical keyboard, then at the empty room. He typed: SILENCE . The progress bar flickered and filled.

In the very corner of the eighth photo, reflected in the window of a parked car, was the photographer. They weren't holding a camera. They were standing perfectly still, their arms at their sides, looking up at the "hole" in the sky. Behind them, a second figure stood—tall, thin, and impossibly pale.

Arthur didn't close the laptop. He didn't run. He simply sat there, listening to the silence between the keys, waiting to see if he would stay still, too.
