The highlight, however, was "The Chute"—a narrow stretch where the water picked up speed, sending them spinning through a series of small, bubbly rapids. Maya led the way, using her long limbs like paddles to steer through the rocks. "Watch the branch!" Sarah yelled from behind.
"Careful, Leggy," Leo joked, watching Maya nearly trip over a stray strap. "We haven't even hit the water yet, and you're already trying to do a backflip."
The trio waded into the cool, crystal-clear water. The transition from the scorching air to the bracing chill of the creek was a shock that prompted a chorus of gasps and laughter. Maya flopped onto her tube, her long legs dangling over the sides as she pushed off into the gentle current.
"It's called efficiency, Leo," Maya shot back with a grin, pulling her bright blue tube toward the muddy bank. "While you’re still inflating your ego, I’ll be halfway to the bridge."
Maya ducked just in time, her tube spinning in a dizzying circle as she emerged into the calm pool on the other side, breathless and soaking wet.
"Same time next weekend?" Leo asked, tossing a wet towel into the car.
