Elias froze. Behind him, in the real world, he heard the distinct click of a latch. The "Driver Checker" had finally found the piece of hardware it was looking for.

Curiosity outweighed caution. Elias clicked "Update All." The fans on his PC began to scream, spinning faster than he’d ever heard. The room grew cold, and the air smelled faintly of ozone and old parchment.

Elias frowned. "The Series?" He opened his file explorer and found a new folder labeled Serie Completa . Inside were thousands of video files, each dated with a timestamp. He clicked one from three years ago. It was a high-definition recording of his own living room. He saw himself sleeping on the couch, but there was a shadow by the window that shouldn't have been there—a figure holding a device that looked remarkably like a motherboard.

He scrolled to the very last file. The timestamp was for today, 06:49 AM .
