Check your : Type OPTIONS > User Preferences tab and ensure that "Keyboard entry except script" is selected under Priority for Coordinate Data Entry .
Type QSELECT in the command line or find it under the tab > Utilities . In the dialog box, set the Object type to Text or MText .
